Champions without borders (Berlin, Germany)

Since 2012, in a social atmosphere which is so often marked by boundaries and exclusivity in Berlin, Champions without Borders has worked hard to emphasize openness and inclusion. Champions without Borders is unique compared to exclusive clubs in that they are the first NGO in Berlin to offer sport trainings and teams for refugees, free of bureaucratic or language barriers. For some years, the CHoG women’s* team has included players from Russia, Togo, Kosovo, Cuba, and Germany who meet regularly to talk, play games, and have fun.

CHAMPIONS ohne GRENZEN (CHoG) is a project that creates access to football and other sports for adult refugee womxn in Berlin and Brandenburg through cost-free sports practices, further leisure time activities and formations to both, their players as well as other sporting structures. The most important goals are building self-confidence and community as well as reducing inequalities through fostering participation and exchange amongst womxn of all ages and backgrounds. In 2019, they have been reaching for new goals when sustanifying their uniforms, introducing after-school classes and a girls' program run by their own players. When asking their players to describe what ChoG means to them, they said: Home, freedom, travelling the world, family, wholeness, security. In 2019 it was their 3rd participation in the DISCOVER FOOTBALL tournament, but the first time they represent the HOME TEAM on their own!
