Leadership Program Iraq

Participation and Leadership - Strengthening women in and through football in Iraq / KRI

Within our project “Strengthening women in and through football in Iraq & KRI” 20 women in football/futsal leadership positions, 15 from Iraq, 5 from the wider WANA region (West Asia and North Africa) had the opportunity to participate in 10 online workshops during the year 2021.  The Leadership Programme series was about learning and improving leadership skills, networking and exchanging ideas, and benefiting from the shared knowledge and rich experiences that all participants bring into the programme in different ways. The workshops included the following topics: the situation of women in football in their respective contexts, creating new spaces for women in football, sport event management, networking, visibility, and mental health in sport.

At the end of the one-year leadership programme a handbook was published with contributions from programme participants, through which they provide readers with insights into their work in and with football. In addition, the projects described are best practice examples of successful work at grassroots level to improve football structures for women and girls.
